I maintain a motorcycle blog at Angi the Biker Chick. I haven't updated in a while, but there is still some good stuff.
I have a 1998 Honda VT750CD2. That is the official Honda name. VT750 is the bike, and CD2 is the Classic Deluxe, 2-tone paint scheme. If I feel like saying a lot (and sound like I am in-the-know) I will say I have a 1998 Honda Shadow ACE (short for America Classic Edition) Deluxe 750.
Without further ado, here she is:
I have named her Alexa, meaning protector of Mankind. Being that her model year is 1998, I thought a popular name from that year was in order. I have named her this in hopes she will protect me from all the scary cage drivers on the road.
My previous bike was a 1995 Kawasaki Vulcan 500.
She was a gorgeous burgundy and black color and had modified pipes so she was LOUD! I had put white, Hawaiian flower decals on the tank as my way of customizing. The seat was very cushy and I had no problem going 400+ miles in a day. Her name was Rhonda Alida which means loud (Rhonda), small winged one (Alida). For only being a 500, she had plenty of pick-up!
I bought Rhonda off of eBay the end of March, 2004. She had 5700 miles on her when I picked her up. When I sold her right before Thanksgiving, 2005, she had 24,000 miles on her! My old car blew a head gasket in October , 2004, so I road to work every day. I finally bought a new car the beginning of September, 2005.
Alexa was purchased from a uncle the same day Rhonda was sold. Alexa had been bought new off the line by this uncle and had mostly sat in his garage. Alexa had 3600 miles on her when I bought it. She is now up to 20000, so time for a check-up!
Despite being a smaller bike, I did prefer the belt drive on my Kawasaki. The Honda has a chain drive and thus requires chain cleanings every 500 miles. Belt drives just need visual inspections to insure there are no cracks. Belts occasionally stretch, but you simply move the rear wheel back to accommodate for the excess slack.
